Family-Friendly Hikes in Corrèze

If you're traveling with children and love walking, Corrèze offers 16 hiking trails specially designed for young adventurers. This network, called Randoland, includes trails under 5 kilometers long. One particularly short route is located in Monceaux-sur-Dordogne, near Argentat. However, if you’re planning to climb peaks and reach the heights of mountain ranges, we recommend hiring guides, even for experienced hikers.

 

Top 5 Hikes in Corrèze

From the Soursac Plateau to the Gorges of Luzège

On this easy 15-kilometer hike, you'll pass through villages and fields before descending into the forested area around the Luzège. Stunning views of the Rochers Noirs Viaduct and the Frétigne Peninsula await you. After climbing through a pine forest, the Dordogne Valley and the Cantal Mountains will unfold before your eyes. The starting point is in Soursac, about an hour northeast of Argentat. Follow the yellow trail markers for guidance.

From the Cars Ruins to the Longeyroux Peat Bog

This beautiful 16-kilometer hike across the Millevaches Plateau will introduce you to two iconic sites in Corrèze: the ruins of the Cars, remnants of an ancient Gallo-Roman agricultural estate, and the Longeyroux Peat Bog, which you can explore via an interpretive trail. Over 8,000 years old, this protected area is home to many rare plant species. This is an easy hike starting in Saint-Merd-les-Oussines, within the Millevaches en Limousin Regional Natural Park.

Discovering Confolent-Port-Dieu

Located near the Bort-les-Orgues Lake, Confolent-Port-Dieu is the smallest village in Corrèze, with just about 30 residents. Starting from the village, follow the yellow trail markers on this 13-kilometer hike along the Dordogne gorges. It’s a moderately challenging hike through beautiful forests.

From Vent-Haut to Vent-Bas

This easy 10-kilometer circuit forms a loop starting from Vent-Haut, south of Neuvic. It follows an old road that once connected Neuvic to Mauriac. The views of the Dordogne gorges and the Auvergne region are breathtaking. The trail takes you back in time, exploring the region's history and life in its villages of yesteryear.

On the Roof of Limousin

This long and challenging 19-kilometer hike is well worth the effort. Strong legs are needed to climb the Limousin mountain, tackle the elevation gain, and cross forests and picturesque villages. But the reward is the stunning panoramic views of the Auvergne mountains, the Corrèze highlands, and the many valleys with winding rivers and lakes. The majestic landscapes of the Corrèze National Park unfold before your eyes. The hike starts from the parking area north of Mont Bessou in Meymac, an hour north of Camping Le Gibanel. Follow the yellow markers.
