Visit One of the Most Beautiful Villages in France in Corrèze
Our campsite in Corrèze is perfectly located to help you discover the surrounding villages. Perched on a hill 350 meters above sea level, between Limousin and Périgord, stands the silhouette of Saint-Robert: an ancient Merovingian settlement, Saint-Robert is now listed as one of the "Most Beautiful Villages of France." In the 1980s, its charm and the preservation of its medieval appearance led it to be chosen as the setting for the TV series Des Grives aux Loups, an adaptation of Claude Michelet's novels. A visit to Saint-Robert, whether on a casual stroll or with a guidebook provided by the tourist office, will lead you to discover charming alleyways, noble houses, fortified gates, and a remarkable 12th-century Romanesque priory church, of which the choir and transept still remain. The fortified church also features a square tower, serving as a keep, a lantern of the dead, and an impressive octagonal bell tower. Only a 16th-century chapel with fluted columns remains today to testify to the former presence of the lordly castle of Verneuil. However, several manors and fortified houses can still be admired in Saint-Robert, including the Noailles Pavilion built under Louis XII, the 14th-century Château d’Aragon, the Château des Beauroire, the Maison Sens, the Maison Seguin, and the Maison d’Amarzit. At the heart of Saint-Robert lies the village's oldest building, a former monastic structure around which the town grew. Also to be discovered are an ancient dovecote, a former post office, a 15th-century wrought-iron cross listed as a historical monument, medieval shops, and the charming Saint-Maurice fountain. As you can see, for an unforgettable holiday in Corrèze, Camping Gibanel welcomes you!
